I just upgraded to v. 1.2, and I'm still not getting Rain Rate or Rain Last 24 Hr, and I understand those are the two that the CWOP network uses. It rained 0.03 inches yesterday afternoon according to Storm Rate start date 3/8. Finally even when it's raining it doesn't register any Rain Today. It's now about 1:23 pm Pacific time. Yesterday it rained mostly in the late afternoon.

Rain March and 12 Month Rain always show data. So data is being received from my weather station.

Rain Today is rain since Midnight. Has it rained since midnight?
Rain 24 Hours is rolling. If it is 3 PM then Rain 24 hours is rain since 3 PM yesterday. Has it rained after 1:23 PST yesterday?
Rain Rate is only when it is currently raining.

You can send me your database and I can check the values if you'd like.

Re: Rain Today - no it hasn't rained since midnight, but it never shows any value except 0, even when it's been raining all day.

Re: Rain Rate - it makes sense that it only reports that when it's raining, but I've never seen a value there.

Re: Rain last 24 hours - that never has a value in it either.

Like I say, I do get values for whatever month it is, and for the season total, so the station is sending rain data. The Vantage Pro 2 station console does show it when it's raining. One time when it was raining hard it said "Raining Cats and Dogs!"

Rain Last Hour

I've noticed that if you quit the program for any reason and restart, it 'forgets' what it was and resets to 0.00 and will stay
there even with the rain continuing. (rxxx in the CWOP string)

Rain Last 24 Hr

Always has been 0.00. Has this been implemented yet? (pxxx in the CWOP string)

Need another copy of your weather database so I can examine the values.
Rain last hour and rain last 24 hours are calculated not fed from the station so I rely on the database to formulate the values.
When the program starts it reads in the database to recalculate the values.
So you should have values in both and both should be transmitting.

As a followup I just went and looked at your raw data and I see you have a Rain Rate starting at 3:49 Zulu (should be 7:49 PM PST?)
You "Rain since local midnight" (the "P" value) also goes up. The "Rain past 24 hours" value (the "p" value) stays at 0 - This is an issue.

But your "Rain since local midnight" (the "P" value) resets between 7:59 and 8:09 ZULU which means it reset between 11:59 PM and 12:09 AM which is what is expected. (it rises again at 3:49 Zulu when you start to get rain again.)

So looking at the data the only issue I see right now is the "Rain past 24 hours" value (the "p" value) is not being properly calculated.
Is it showing properly on the display when you have rain?
Are you using version 1.2 (non beta release, just plain 1.2.0)?

Regarding the Last Hour Rain and quiting the program going back to 0.00...

It stays that way for an hour then starts going back to showing a figure.

Why does quitting the program cause this?

Yes, I was talking to you, didn't notice the username changed from mlbooz to you.

Please send the database, just choose "Open Support folder" from Help menu, that will open the folder the database is in.
Named: "[STATION NAME] database.sdb"
Just compress it and email it to me dean@afterten.com

I check the "Rain Last Hour" issue as well when I get the database.

Got it, it will take me awhile to examine so I probably won't post a follow up until later tonight.

Your not writing real-time records to the database. The data from the Vantage Pro archive records aren't used in calculating the rain values. Turn on real-time records and in the mean time I'll see if I can code rain calculations using only the memory records.

Ok, real-time records checked. Still no Rain Last 24 Hr, but it remembers the rain last hour.

24 hours after starting real-time records, Rain Last 24 Hr now is showing the data.

Thanks to Dean and Mike for the info. I also just checked "send real time data to db". Why isn't that the default value?

We'll see if that solves the problem. It's not supposed to rain here for another week or so, and it may be close to the end of the rainy season, but if it stops raining, I'll pour more water into the funnel.

I'm either going to make it the default or remove it as an options altogether. The only option would be how long between writing the records with the default being 5 minutes.
